TIA Plans to Roll Out Facial Recognition Technology This Summer St. Pete Catalyst • Tampa International Airport will begin using facial recognition devices in lieu of travelers showing passports at three international gates for departing international passengers. TIA's goals are to improve security and provide more accurate passenger metrics to the airport. The airport also plans to install electronic gates at the entrance of one of their airside shuttles this summer to test this concept before a systemwide rollout.
