Eight Tampa Companies Vie for Startup of the Year St. Pete Catalyst • Eight early-stage technology startups from Tampa competed with 100 rising startups across the world for Startup of the Year's global competition and summit. The three-day event, hosted by Established and Start Co., took place earlier this week in Memphis, Tennessee. Immertec and Fruutfull placed in the Top 5.
Florida Polytechnic Receives Grant to Amp Up Self-Driving Vehicle Research TBBJ • Florida Polytechnic University received a $350K grant from the National Science Institute to increase research on autonomous vehicles. This grant will be the first step for Florida Polytechnic to become one of the leading institutions on autonomous vehicles in the nation.
How Physicians Helped MedTech Company Immertec Snag $6M in Funding Tampa Bay Inno • Tampa-based Immertec closed $6M in funding earlier this month. Physicians who use Immertec's products helped get the company in touch with investors. Erik Maltais, CEO of Immertec, mentioned persistence being key to securing funding for the physician VR training platform.

Juggling Expectations & Maintaining Mental Well-Being As a Startup Founder with Brad Feld Managing a startup, keeping up with expectations, running a small team, scaling with limited resources and trying to stay healthy can push even the best entrepreneurs to the edge. Elizabeth Galbut of SoGal interviewed Brad Feld, Managing Director of the Foundry and Co-Founder of TechStars, about managing mental health and well-being for startup founders.
